Power To The Pinoy: It’s About You, Not Your Stuff, Silly.
By Lalaine Chu-Benitez
Aren’t you just exhausted, dahling? Oh, it is sooo so tiring to live in this fabulous city. After all, it takes supreme effort to keep up stride with all the slim, fashion forward, rich and fabulous Joneses of this town, n'est ce pas?
Shy? Modest? No space for you here, I’m afraid. This place is not for the wallflower, or even for the low-credit-card-limit-clueless carrying the last two seasons’ ‘it’ bag. Don’t you know that your collection of designer duds needs a regular update? Dahling, you gotta have the bag, the watch, the shoes, the car, and of course, the holiday. Because if you don’t - horrors of horrors! -what have you got to share with all your Facebook and Instagram “friends”?!

Girl, Please! Nonsense Women Say
Women are fantastic, intelligent, magical creatures of light and love. Well, most of us anyway, most of the time. As fabulous and magnificent as we can be, there are times when women say and do the wrongest things – myself included! I’ll be the first to admit that as a woman, I say a lot of things that men probably find absurd. It’s not as if I do it intentionally. I don’t exactly go out of my way to complicate things for the opposite sex. It’s just that our minds are wired differently, in as much as our role in the society is different than the guy’s. It is almost as if women have their own language, a hidden culture of implied complexity and severity, and it’s the job of men to decode us.

Of Being Single, Kiwi Crates, and Cassava Cakes
By Dannabelle Gutierrez
I have been single for thirteen years. Let me say that again, in case you missed it, my singleness is thirteen years old. It’s funny, because there are actual humans of the same age who are getting into relationships and here I am, tap-tap-tapping away on a keyboard, sipping my tea. A few weeks ago, I was out to dinner with two very good friends of mine and their significant others. When youʼve been single for as long as I have, third-wheeling or fifth-wheeling is nothing new.

The Women We Love
Excel V. Dyquiangco
From Amelia Earhart to Florence Nightingale to Mother Teresa, we love women whose stories have not only become inspiration but have left an indelible legacy in the world. Society would not have evolved as quickly and rigorously if weren’t for the pioneering efforts and actionable examples set by empowered women of substance, strength, and character. As Eleanor Roosevelt says, “We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face… we must do that which we think we cannot.”
Filipino and non-Filipino, those who are still with us and those who have passed, here are several women who have looked at fear straight in the face and managed to make possible what seemed to be irrefutably otherwise.

Happy Relationships Throw More Parties
By Bo Sanchez
Guy 1: Cecilia is so beautiful.
Guy 2: Oh yes. She looks like Demi Moore in Ghost. (Note: This conversation happened centuries ago.)
Guy 1: If given a chance, would you want to marry her?
Guy 2: Uh… no, not really.
Guy 1: Why not?
Guy 2: How should I put it? Cecilia’s uh…not a happy person.
Guy 1: You noticed that too?
Guy 2: She’s gloomy. She’s a negative person. She may be beautiful, but I don’t want to live with a negative person for the rest of my life.
Guy 1: So unlike Stella.
Guy 2: Now there’s a cheerful girl. I really like her. So kind. So friendly. Always has a lovely smile.
Guy 1: She’s not as beautiful as Demi Moore.
Guy 2: But she’s the kind of woman I’ll marry.
Guy 1: What? You have a crush on her too?
Guy 2: Hey, fall in line bro.
This conversation actually happened some twenty years ago between two of my single friends. We were all single then. And believe me, Stella was like a guy magnet. Five of my friends had a crush on her. Except for me, of course. I was immune to crushes. Because I looked at all females the way I looked at common furniture. Because my heart was focused on God alone. (And my nose is getting longer right this minute…)
